Two professors of the University of Navarra, Ángela García Paredes and Ignacio García Pedrosa, have received the 2007 Spanish Architecture Prize for their design of the Teatro Valle Inclán of Madrid. Both professors have their own architectural studios, and teach the 4th-year course on architectural projects at the School of Architecture.
The Teatro Valle Inclán stands out "for its integration into the process of urban redevelopment and the interactive capacity of its architecture for articulating its exterior volume within its environment."

Respect for existing walls
According to the proceedings of the award ceremony, the award took into special consideration "the respect shown for the remains of the existing walls,” which were not touched, thanks to a separation of the foundation and the lateral supports.
The judging panel was made up of Hernández Pezzi, President of the Higher Council of Professional Colleges of Architects of Spain (CSCAE); Ramos Guallart, Secretary of Housing; Alberto Humanes Bustamante, an architect of the Institute for the Spanish Historical Patrimony; Manuel Fortea, Dean of the Official College of Architects of Extremadura, the architect Gabriel Ruiz Cabrero; and the General Secretary of the CSCAE, Carlos Vidal Sanz Ceballos.
