12 March 1507. The Italian Renaissance prince and condottiero Cesare Borgia, pursued by the men of his enemy, Pope Julius II, met his death at the hands of warriors of the Count of Lerín in a gully known as Barranca Salada, on the outskirts of the town of Viana, Navarre.
Five centuries and one year later, Viana will be remembering this historic incident with a festive day. On Saturday 8 March, at 10.00 am, a march will leave the Plaza de los Fueros and walk down the Cesare Borgia Trail to the Barranca Salada (about 9 kilometres).
At 12.00 noon, the performance of Cesare Borgia: his end will be put on, followed by a well-deserved lunch for people to get their strength back after the long walk. The return to Viana is by coach. To your memory, Cesare Borgia.
