Their souls are so close to the river, that only the logs of the timber raft separate them from the freezing torrent of the river Esca that rushes down the Pyrenean valleys.
They are the timber raftsmen, who used to bring pine and cedar logs from the remote mountains. Roncal, Salazar, Aezkoa… kilometres of rapids and troubled waters that end in the dangerous fall of the Burgui dam. An exciting visual re-enactment of tremendous significance.
The river rafts will come out again this Saturday to honour a historic memory, a way of life of men and women who made their mark on Navarrese tradition. Following a new tradition that began in 1991, Burgui will bring together hundreds of people to witness this mixture of passion, deep roots and spectacular feats.
There will also be demonstrations of traditional trades, children’s workshops, a DO Roncal cheese fair, street music and much more. You can also visit the Timber Rafting Museum. Experience one of Navarre’s oldest traditions this weekend.
