Burguete celebrates the feast in honour of its patron saint with open-air dancing and txarangas

Friday, 20 June 2008

Auritz/Burguete, San Juan bonfires and Dance of the Tríbuli, all closely linked to the Eve of Saint John. From Friday 20 there will be open-air dances, krewes and many other events.

The most-awaited moment will arrive on the night of the 23rd, when the town’s young folk will dedicate the traditional Dance of the Tríbuli to the authorities.

Dressed in a red beret and scarf, they will perform this ancient dance one at a time and repeat it up to four times in different parts of the town. Then it is time to jump over the bonfires and enjoy wild partying with the txaranga. The Eve of St John is very special in North-western Navarre.

Take advantage of the occasion to visit the Roncal Valley in the Pyrenees, with its marked personality overflowing with ancestral traditions, a tasty cuisine, and nature in its purest state. Travel unhurriedly along its lovely cobbled roads and carefully-tended farms, walk through its forests and enjoy the numerous smells that mark each season, and make sure you try the region’s excellent designation of origin cheese, the migas de pastor (shepherd’s breadcrumbs) and char-broiled lamb chops.
