The people of Pamplona have accompanied Saint Fermin in the most special day of the festival.

Monday, 07 July 2008
The excellent weather of the 7th of July, ensured that the local population followed the image of the Saint through the streets of the old town during a procession that lasted more than one hour.
The mayoress and council members, wearing ceremonial dresses, left the City Hall on their way to the Cathedral, ten minutes before 10 AM, to join the church official who preside over the Saint’s procession. The day was clear and hundreds of people went through to the streets of the old town to see the Saint.

They were accompanied by the parade of giants and cabezudos, bugle players, drummers, maceros, dantzaris, txistu players and members of historic guilds. The members of the city music band La Pamplonesa walked behind the procession.

In San Lorenzo Church, they collected the carving of Saint Fermin among claps and cheers of "¡Viva San Fermín!". Inside the church, dozens of persons did homage to the image of the Saint, who left the chapel at 10.30 PM.

As tradition dictates, they stopped during the parade of San Fermin enjoying emotive "momenticos" in honor of the Saint. The stops were in San Antón Street 47, where members of the Coral de Santiago de la Chantrea sang a jota during a moment of silence; in the Pocico de San Cernin, where the txistularis (minstrals) interpreted the "Agur Jaunak" and flowers were offered by the children; and in Major 20, the youth band (Tuna of Pamplona) and the inhabitants of the city Gema Zabalza and Elena Leache dedicated another jota (typical songs).

At 11.40 hours, the whole procession went back to the Church of San Lorenzo, where the Archbishop of Pamplona and Tudela celebrated the solemn Mass in the Chapel, presided by the Monsignor Francisco Perez Gonzalez, with the Chapter of the Cathedral. The archbishop began with the moving homily to Pamplona from Pope Benedicto XVI, with whom he had recently visited.

During the celebration the Chapel Music of the Cathedral and the Orfeón Pamplonés, headed by Aurelio Sagaseta, played different pieces. The homily lasted an hour and, after this, the Corporation has accompanied the Saint to the Cathedral with the music of La Pamplonesa and the Company of Giants and Cabezudos.
