Music floods Pamplona streets during San Fermín 2008 Festival. 204 out of 484 festival programme's events are related to music: reveilles, street music bands, outdoor dances, folk, rock, jazz... Main part of the 3,1 million Euros programme budget is devoted to music.
Start at 6:45. The reveilles wake up people who luckily get to sleep. La Pamplonesa Band, eighty years performing, plays accompanied by the people in its way to the Bull Square. Inside, continues his performance making less boring the bulls entrance after the Encierro.
Every day, at midday, street music bands start playing from different spots of the city: Plaza Consistorial, Descalzos, San Lorenzo, and the bus station... The bands, coming from different cities, stop several times the parade to have a rest. People united to the bands can also stop at the “Jota” Folk Song Festival taking place at Paseo Sarasate. There, the audience can listen to the most tuned voices from this style: Estampa Navarra –performing the 11th -, Voces Riberas -the 12th - and la Ribera Canta -the 14th -.
Just before lunch, street music bands sound at Plaza de la Cruz. The bands from different villages are coming to this stage: Buñuel (the 9th ), Cáseda (the 10th), Bayona -twin city from France, (the 11th), Ribaforada (the 12th), Sangüesa (the 13th) and Garinoain (the 14th). Folk from different Spanish regions has also a place in the fiesta, in El Bosquecillo, next to Taconera Park.
Euskal Musika
Not far from this stage, music from the Basque Country can be listened in the Taconera Park at 1 p.m. and later in the evening 12 a.m. will be held performances by: Estna Beltza (dark milk, in Basque) the 11th; the ladies’ group Amaren Alabak, the 10th; and the hardcore and trash metal group Anestesia will close the programme.
Local folk music, txistu and gaita dances offered every day at 9 p.m. a testimony from the native folk. In the meantime, Youth Outdoor Dance sounds in the Paseo Sarasate. At 8 p.m. another no so young Outdoor Dance takes place in Plaza de la Cruz. There, elder people will be able to dance the summer songs of the veteran Georgie Dann the 10th.
From midday to the dawn, while the Outdoors Dances continue in Plaza de la Cruz and Antoniutti Park, the most waited performances are about to start. Rock fans go directly to Plaza de los Fueros where the programme “Fueros directo” is taking place. This square will host the concert of Marky Ramone and some others such as: Momo, Sin dirección (the 10th), Dikers and Sueños rotos (the 11th), Obus and Motobomba (the 12th ). The last concert, the 13th will be devoted to the Guns and Roses with the performances of FF Guns and A Quemarropa.
In the Plaza del Castillo, the audience will dance away to music by La Habana de Noche (the 10th), Los Fabulosos Cadillacs (the 11th), the rock and roll legend Chuck Berry and Lord Byron (the 12th) and the Spanish singer Pastora (the 13th).
Compañía Square becomes a peaceful island of jazz sounds from the 8th to the 1. Jazz lovers will enjoy the music of Jerez-Texas (the 10th)and The Saxophone Summit, composed by Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman and Ravi Coltrane performing Friday 11th.
