12/7/08 Colourful and crowded with one person gored. This was the sixth encierro

Saturday, 12 July 2008

A huge number or runners in this sixth Encierro, the first one of the weekend, voluminous and well armed bull’s from Dolores Aguirre. Despite de number of runners, the bulls were the protagonists of an Encierro just under three minutes. There were only a few good runs, many people falling and one person was gored in the thigh.

Running as a close group at the beginning of Cuesta de Santo Domingo, the bulls were received by hundreds of runners. They arrived in la Plaza Consistorial without any incidents or injuries.

At the curve of Mercaderes two of the bulls slipped, but continued the run with no danger. The group was divided in two parts along Estafeta: five bulls run ahead and one ran closely behind.

In the middle of Estafeta, one of the bulls slipped and caused a crash with the animal behind, which also fell spectacularly. After getting up, the brown bull crossed and turned in the middle of the street. This made a lot of runners very nervous but finally the bull turned back and ran straight for the remainder of the Encierro.

Because there was double the number of people than other days, the runs were slower than usual. In the area close to the bull ring, known as Telefonica, one runner was gored in the thigh.
The Dolores Aguirre’s bulls, which weigh more than 600 kilos each, entered the bull ring with no further incidents in less than three minutes.
