Felicia of Aquitaine went on a pilgrimage to St. James. On her way back from Compostela she decided to renounce the comfortable, luxurious life of a noblewoman and stay in Obanos to help the local poor and the pilgrims.
Her brother, Duke William, came to fetch her and take her home. Blind with rage at her refusal to accompany him, he stabbed her to death.
This is only the beginning of a medieval legend. If you wish to know how it will end, you mustn’t miss one of the performances staged in the town from Saturday 19 to 26.
Every day at dusk, at around 10.00 pm, 300 townspeople from the town will put on a performance of the Mystery of Obanos, something they have been doing since 1965. Come to this small town near Puente la Reina and enjoy a show that has been listed as Feast of National Tourist Interest.
