This is your chance to relive one of the most cruel battles in Navarrese history in Orreaga/Roncesvalles

Monday, 11 August 2008

On 15 August 778, the army of Emperor Charlemagne led by Roland and his twelve peers met their death in the thorny forests of “Ronzesbal”.

Years later, this historic event was preserved for history in one of the most beautiful poems of the time, the Chanson de Roland which made the name of Roncesvalles famous across Europe.

Many centuries later, this event is still remembered. The venue where every 15 August you can read and listen to this story is the Gothic church of Santiago in Orreaga/Roncesvalles. On Friday, you can again become a part of Navarrese history...
