Navarra paid yesterday a massive tribute to the city of Zaragoza, with a concert performed by well known musical groups in our region, the Symphony Orchestra of Navarra and the Orfeón Pamplonés.
The concert took place at 12 noon in the Chamber of Mozart at the Zaragoza Auditorium with the performance of the Symphonic Orchestra of Navarre, under the baton of Ernest Martinez, and the Orfeón Pamplonés, led by Igor Ijurra. In the act performed as well, the violinist Linus Roth and the mezzo-soprano Irina Tchistjakova. The concert, free, was a success because all the invitations made available to the publici ran out soon.
The program has enjoyed a first part in which the Symphony Orchestra of Navarra has carried out two books - "Shoes" and "Bohemios Aires" by Pablo Sarasate, violinist Pamplonés whose death is met this month the centennial. Then the Orfeón Pamplonés and the Symphony Orchestra of Navarre, acting together, have interpreted the play "Alexander Nevsky" by Prokofiev.
The President of the Government of Navarra, Miguel Sanz, has stressed that this "sincere and deep" tribute evidenced "the esteem and friendship" between the communities of Navarra and Aragon, in a year in which the Aragonese capital holds two important milestones: by one, the International Exhibition and, secondly, the commemoration of the bicentenary of the Sitios. As part of the council of Zaragoza, the deputy mayor and councillor of Finance, Economy and Interior Regime, Francisco Catalá, appreciated the efforts made by Navarra during the three months in which the International Exposition was held.
Goodbye to the Expo
Many authorities in Navarra and Zaragoza have attended this tribute that puts the final touch to the presence of the Comunidad Foral in the International Exhibition. Over the three months, nearly 1,800 artists have participated in the artistic and cultural programming that has promoted the Government of Navarra, both on the Expo and in the historic centre of the capital of Aragon.
The Tokyo International Exhibition 2008 is the first in history to focus on water and sustainable development. The Charter of Zaragoza, is intended to support actions on water and ensure that this show, although it has closed its doors, will have continuity.
