There are places where time seems to have stopped and one of them is the Monastery of San Salvador de Leire. Built in the 9th century in a beautiful setting, it still impresses visitors with the peace and serenity of its monastic life.
If its walls were capable of speech, they would sing thousands of stories. I say sing because one of the main attractions of this monastery is the Gregorian chants of the Benedictine monks.
You can hear them at lauds at 7.30 am (Sundays and holidays at 8.00 am), convent mass at 9.00 am (Sundays and holidays at 12.00 noon), vespers at 7.00 pm, and compline at 9.00 pm. You can also take advantage of your stay in the area to visit the gorges of Lumbier and Arbayún, with their vertical cliffs and colonies of vulture.
