The autumn season brings enormous flocks of pigeons to Etxalar. As they fly over the area, the palomeras retake their activity after waiting all year.
To celebrate it, this Sunday is the Day of the Palomeras, a curious feast around this historic hunting method that dates back to the 15th century and which is still practised in Navarre, although it is forbidden elsewhere in Spain. You can go up into the mountains all morning to see pigeon hunting with nets and in the afternoon enjoy a potato omelette competition and music in the town square.
