16th Game Food Festival in Pyrenees

Friday, 21 November 2008
The 16th Game Food Festival in the Baztán-Bidasoa district is here. Throughout November, many restaurants in the area will be preparing special menus that include deer, roebuck, partridge, pigeon and wild boar specialities... a tempting way of getting closer to autumnal aromas.

And, while you are there, make sure to visit Etxalar. Here an ancient net-hunting technique is practiced that dates back to the 15th century; it is maintained for traditional reasons, but forbidden in the rest of the country. There will be organised tours of the ancient palomeras —intricate pigeon hunting structures.

The Baztan Valley and the Bidasoa district are located in northern Navarre. You should not miss this opportunity to enjoy some of the greenest and most humid corners of Navarre. A good way of doing this is on foot, by bicycle or on horseback along the Bidasoa Greenway, an old railway line running parallel to the river Bidasoa which joins the towns of Elizondo (capital of the Baztan Valley) and Endarlatsa (bordering with Guipuzcoa).
