With only minor hits and falls the Alcurrucén breed race through Pamplona

The Chronicle of the Encierro. 12/07/2006.

For the third time coming to Pamplona, in its 17-year history, the Alcurrucén breed lives up to its tradition of a fast pace race (2 minutes and 27 seconds) with no gorings, but with several falls of the runners. The six bulls from Extremadura started very fast its run in Santo Domingo Street lunging forward right and left, but without butting any runner and following the trail of the leading oxen.

After its fast pace through the Consistorial Square, the herd went on the course till the Mercaderes curve without trying to gore, but owing to the high speed the runners were in danger all the time.

When the herd arrived to the alley at the entrance to the bullring, the three first bulls ran over a runner and left him lying in the floor with some stumble on, but the rest of the bulls got the arena without staring at easy objectives. Before coming into the corrals, some of the bulls walk around the ring without butting the crowd.

This year the ranch would make his second participation, one year after of his first appearance. The 13 th of July 2005 , this bulls offered a clean and fast run. Three runners were moved to the hospitals with soft contusions. The only important incident was caused by falls. We lived a curious anecdote in this encierro: a young runner, who ran for the first time in Pamplona, arrived at the bullring, ran through it and came into the bullpen. The spectators were really amazed, but noone could do anything. The imprudent runner stayed in the bullpen even after the bulls came in to the precincts. The police took of the runner, who was completely stunned and frightened.
