El Chupinazo: the begining of the fiesta

Today. Thursday 06/07/2006.

“Pamplona, 6 th of July, bustle and joy”, and, as the song says, “the people from Pamplona (as well as foreigners) are eager to enjoy”. This is why, one year more, the Council Square and the surrounding streets are crowded a few minutes before noon. Once again, the city is coloured in red and white, once again the cries “San Fermíin, San Fermín” take up the preliminaries of the fiesta. Once again, the firecracker, this year launched by the councilor of Aralar Group, Javier Eskubi, unveils 9 days of joy, fun, happiness and, by times, even unruliness: the fiesta begins.

By the cry “Pamploneses, long live the fiestas of San Fermín”, both in Basque and Spanish, and not always free of controversy, 216 hours uninterrupted hours of fiesta begin.

In the Town Hall, not only the full council, but also several illustrious guests and plenty of journalists gathered as Juanma Bajo Ulloa, cinema director. The people who were in the town hill were come from several countries like Mexico, United States or Sahara.

After the launched of the firecracker and several rockets that were threw later, the mayoress Yolanda Barcina, wish everybody enjoy the best fiesta in the world.
